Big Test Awaits in Big Ten Opener

Ducks visit No. 4 UCLA Sunday (12 p.m., FS1).
EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon women's basketball team hits the road for its Big Ten opener, as the Ducks visit No. 4 UCLA at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Pauley Pavilion.
Oregon's 10-0 start marks its best start to a season since beginning the 2015-16 season 11-0, while it is just the third 10-0 or start or better in program history (started 21-0 in 1978-79). The Ducks are one of just four 10-0 teams in the nation, as of Friday.
The Ducks look to snap a five-game losing streak in their series with UCLA, as the Bruins have been ranked inside the nation's top 20 in each of the previous five matchups. UO is 36-44 all-time against UCLA, with a 13-25 road record.

LAST TIME OUT
Oregon has been hosting games against Oregon State since 1975, and never before have the Ducks dominated the Beavers at home the way they did Wednesday.
The UO women (10-0) set a program record for points in the rivalry series and won by their largest margin ever over OSU at home, 96-73. The Ducks threatened to break their record for largest margin ever over the Beavers, two 25-point wins in Corvallis in the Eighties, but OSU hit a three-pointer in the final 30 seconds to avoid that.
Katie Fiso scored 23 points and dished out 14 assists, second-most in program history, to lead the Ducks at Matthew Knight Arena. Mia Jacobs had 21 points with six rebounds, and Sarah Rambus added a career-high 18 points.
SCOUTING UCLA
No. 4 UCLA (8-1) has won back-to-back games after suffering its lone defeat of the season to then-fourth-ranked Texas at the Players Era Women's Championship in Las Vegas. The Bruins closed the event with an 89-59 win over Duke before a 99-77 home win over then-No. 14 Tennessee on Nov. 30.
The Bruins have faced four ranked teams already this season, defeating Oklahoma and North Carolina away from home earlier this season. UCLA was the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten by both the coaches and media, with Lauren Betts a unanimous pick for preseason player of the year.
UCLA ranks second in the Big Ten in free throw shooting (81.5 percent), and defensive rebounds a game (30.1) while ranking third in assists per game (20.9), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6) and 3-point percentage (37.8).
Gabriela Jaquez's 15.6 points a night leads six Bruins who average double-digit points, followed by Kiki Rice's 15.3, Gianna Kneepkens' 13.9, Betts' 13.3, Angela Dugalic's 11.1 and Charlisse Leger-Walker's 10.6.
INSIDE THE SERIES
In a series that dates back to 1980, UCLA holds a 44-36 lead in the all-time series while the Ducks are 13-25 against the Bruins in Los Angeles. UCLA has won five straight in the series, with the Bruins being ranked inside the nation's top 20 in those contests. Oregon last won in Los Angeles on Feb. 14, 2020, when third-ranked UO defeated seventh-ranked UCLA 80-66. Head coach Kelly Graves is 11-11 against the Bruins in his Oregon tenure.
NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER
Oregon closed the month of November with a perfect 9-0 record after completing an extended road trip where it played on three games over five days, capping a stretch of four games in eight days in three cities. After a home victory over Utah State on Nov. 23, the Ducks hit the road the following day for the Hoopfest Women's Challenge in Frisco, Texas, over Thanksgiving week. UO kicked off the holiday tournament with a 71-53 victory over Saint Mary's before claiming a dominant 84-46 win over Old Dominion on Thanksgiving Day.
The Ducks then flew to Atlanta on Friday for a Sunday date at Auburn, overcoming a slow first half and erasing a 14-point halftime deficit to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season, 58-53. Sophomores Katie Fiso (24 points) and Ehis Etute (16) each set career highs in scoring, and along with Mia Jacobs' 10 points accounted for 50 of UO's 58 points. Etute added a career-best 15 rebounds in turning in the first double-double of her career.
» It marked the first undefeated month of November for the Ducks since going 6-0 during the 2018-19 season (not including the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season).

Oregon's stifling defense, a chief reason for Oregon's success a season ago, is back again this season. The Ducks have forced at least 20 turnovers eight times and recorded double-digit steals in nine of 10 contests to start the season. The nine games with 10 or more steals are the second-most in the country, and one behind national leader Maryland, while the eight 20-turnover games are tied for most such games nationally.
Oregon forced a season-high 32 turnovers against West Georgia behind 24 steals in the season opener, its most steals in a game since 2013. Oregon's defense recorded 12 or more steals and forced at least 23 turnovers in four consecutive games to begin the season. UO has turned in 10 or more steals in five consecutive games, matching the longest streak from a season ago. The four consecutive games with 20-plus turnovers to start the season marked its longest since eight straight such games during the 2010-11 season.
» Oregon created at least 22 turnovers in three straight outings, forcing 29 vs. Utah State, 26 against Saint Mary's and 22 against Old Dominion. UO has two different stretches of at least three consecutive games with 22 or more forced turnovers.

Sophomore point guard Katie Fiso has stepped into the Ducks' lead guard spot this season, as she takes over after the departures of graduate guards Deja Kelly and Peyton Scott. Fiso, who was the Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Washington her senior season, got her first career start in the season opener against West Georgia on Nov. 3 and turned in her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists without a turnover. She produced her first 20-point scoring effort while handing out 10 assists against Grand Canyon on Nov. 11 and has since recorded points-assists double-doubles against Army (12 points, 10 assists), Saint Mary's (15 points, 10 assists) and Oregon State (23 points, 14 assists). Coming off back-to-back 20-point outings, she has produced a team-best four 20-point scoring efforts this season.
Against Oregon State, Fiso produced one her best games of the season with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting to go with a career-high 14 assists. Her 14 assists equaled the second-highest assist total in a single game in program history, and were three shy of Sabrina Ionescu's record of 17 set in 2018.
» Fiso's four 20-point games are tied for second-most in the league among Big Ten guards.
» Her five points-assists double-doubles this season lead the nation with the next closest players having two, while only four players in the country have multiple such double-doubles.

Senior F Mia Jacobs, a Fresno State transfer, has made an immediate impact for the Ducks on the young season. She ranks second on the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the floor. Jacobs finished as the team's leading scorer in three of the first four games to begin the season, including a season-high 26 points in UO's 84-66 win over Grand Canyon on Nov. 11. It marked the highest scoring performance by a Duck since Te-Hina Paopao scored 28 points against Stanford on March 2, 2023. Additionally, she has connected on 37-of-43 free throw attempts to rank seventh in the Big Ten at 86.0 percent.
» She is second on the team with three 20-point outings after scoring 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting Wednesday against Oregon State, needing just four points to reach 1,500 for her career.
» Jacobs drilled a season-high five 3-pointers against Washington State on Nov. 19 on her way to her second 20-point outing of the season, going 4-for-5 from range in the second half of UO's 86-59 victory.

She produced her first 20-point scoring effort while handing out 10 assists against Grand Canyon on Nov. 11 and has since recorded points-assists double-doubles against Army (12 points, 10 assists), Saint Mary's (15 points, 10 assists) and Oregon State (23 points, 14 assists). Coming off back-to-back 20-point outings, she has produced a team-best four 20-point scoring efforts this season.
Against Oregon State, Fiso produced one her best games of the season with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting to go with a career-high 14 assists. Her 14 assists equaled the second-highest assist total in a single game in program history, and were three shy of Sabrina Ionescu's record of 17 set in 2018.

Senior F Mia Jacobs, a Fresno State transfer, has made an immediate impact for the Ducks on the young season. She ranks second on the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the floor. Jacobs finished as the team's leading scorer in three of the first four games to begin the season, including a season-high 26 points in UO's 84-66 win over Grand Canyon on Nov. 11. It marked the highest scoring performance by a Duck since Te-Hina Paopao scored 28 points against Stanford on March 2, 2023. Additionally, she has connected on 37-of-43 free throw attempts to rank seventh in the Big Ten at 86.0 percent.
» She is second on the team with three 20-point outings after scoring 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting Wednesday against Oregon State, needing just four points to reach 1,500 for her career.
» Jacobs drilled a season-high five 3-pointers against Washington State on Nov. 19 on her way to her second 20-point outing of the season, going 4-for-5 from range in the second half of UO's 86-59 victory.
» Jacobs' 17 made 3-pointers are the tied for the most among Big Ten forwards (tied for No. 17 nationally among forwards).
» She went 12-of-13 from the free throw line against GCU, marking the most made free throws by a Duck since Sabrina Ionescu made 17 against Mississippi State on Dec. 18, 2018.
