Friday's meeting will be the first-ever between Oregon and Illinois, with each team splitting their last two matches. The Ducks picked up their first road win of the season last Friday with a 4-1 victory over Indiana, before falling 4-2 to Purdue last Sunday.

Northwestern currently sits two spots ahead of Oregon in the Big Ten standings, making Sunday's matchup crucial for positioning ahead of the conference tournament. The top 10 teams earn a spot in the Big Ten Tournament, and Northwestern is currently ninth and Oregon 11^th.
