Ducks Battle Hawkeyes, Fall 4-3
04/18/25 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – For the fourth time in its last six matches, the Oregon women's tennis team went the distance against its opponent, but on Friday the Ducks fell to No. 32 Iowa, 4-3, at the UO Student Tennis Center.
The match came down to a tiebreaker in the third set on court four between UO freshman Patsy Daughters and Iowa's Barbora Pokorna. Daughters claimed the first set 6-4 before Pokorna responded with a 6-3win in the second set.
In the tiebreaker, Daughters fought off two consecutive match points before Pokorna earned a 7-5 win in the third, giving the Hawkeyes the day's decisive point.
For the Ducks (8-13, 1-11), it marked their sixth 4-3 match of the spring, with five coming against ranked teams. Eleven of Oregon's 13 losses this spring have come to ranked opponents, including 10 of 11 conference losses.
After winning the doubles points, Oregon got three-set wins from Candela Aparisi (No. 5) and Juliet Santitto (No. 6), as three of the six singles matches went the full three sets. Iowa featured two ranked players at the top of its lineup, helping the Hawkeyes grab three unanswered points to begin singles play.
A tightly contested doubles point went the way of the Ducks, as UO's top duo of Tilde Jagare and Santitto clawed out of a 1-4 deficit to win their match 6-4. While Jagare and Santitto were battling, Aparisi and Marjorie Souza were in a back-and-forth match on court three, seeing their match tied at 4-4 and again at 5-5 before winning the final two games for a 7-5 victory.
For each pair it marked their seventh doubles win of the spring to lead the team. It was the third win at the top spot in the lineup for Jagare and Santitto, while Aparisi and Souza improved to 5-3 at No. 3.
In singles, Aparisi evened her dual singles record to 4-4 while Santitto has won four of her last six matches and improved to 4-2 at the sixth position in the lineup.
The Ducks host Senior Day on Sunday, where they will recognize seniors Souza and Young prior to their 9 a.m. against Nebraska at the Student Tennis Center.
