09/12/25 | Women's Volleyball
Oregon (6-1) hit .305 and had 10 blocks in Friday’s road win.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Oregon volleyball team got back into the win column Friday evening with a straight-set win (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) over weekend host Long Beach State inside the Walter Pyramid. Valentina Vaulet and Sophia Meyers put down 13 and 11 kills, respectively, while Iva Sucurovic added seven blocks. Oregon improves to 6-1 this season.
The Ducks .305 against Long Beach State (3-4), good for the team's third outing of the year above the .300 mark. For a second time in as many matches this weekend, Meyers committed just one error and finished the night hitting .435 on 23 swings. Senior setter Cora Taylor dished out 24 assists and was just one dig shy of completing a double-double.
With its 10.0 total team blocks, Oregon reached double digits in the category for a fifth-straight match. Freshman libero Natalie Fukumoto picked up a match-high 13 digs to pace the Ducks' floor defense. In victory, Oregon held Long Beach State to a .126 efficiency.
How It Happened: The Ducks raced out to an 8-3 lead in the first set and led 15-8 at the media timeout thanks to a kill from Maria Tabacuks. The lead grew to double digits on two occasions, lastly at 20-10 on a kill by Meyers. On the team's second set point, Vaulet found the floor to secure the 1-0 match lead.
Tabacuks finished the night with six kills.
In another early set push, Oregon turned a tie score into an 8-4 lead in the second to force the home team into a timeout. Long Beach State was within one—UO up 15-14—before the Ducks rattled off the next three points to create some cushion on the scoreboard. Tabacuks had a block and kill during that mini-run. Oregon went into the break leading 2-0 after another set-winning kill by Vaulet.
After Long Beach State took the opening point of the third set, the Ducks won the next four and never trailed again. Oregon led 15-7 when The Beach put together a run of its own and pulled to within three with the Ducks up, 16-13. However, Oregon steadied and went on to close out the match on a 7-0 run, capped by a Vaulet ace to set up match point and a Meyers kill to secure the sweep.
Notable: Oregon had just three service errors—to four aces—compared to its season-high 28 service errors in Thursday's loss to San Diego State … Vaulet now has multiple aces in six of seven matches this season … in the last five matches, Sucurovic has 41 blocks and is averaged 2.16 blocks per set … Meyers is hitting .390 (25-2-59) in the first two matches of the weekend.
Up Next: Oregon plays UC Riverside in Saturday's weekend finale at 4 p.m. The teams have played just twice previously, and not since 2010.
