Ducks Beat UC Riverside in LBSU Finale
09/13/25 | Women's Volleyball
Oregon will go into the final week of non-conference play with a 7-1 record.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Oregon volleyball team beat UC Riverside in four sets (25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 25-12) Saturday to close out its weekend at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach. With their victory, the Ducks improve to 7-1 this season with just one week of non-conference play remaining.
Grad transfer Sophia Meyers led all players with a season-high 16 kills—hitting .400—to go with seven digs and four blocks. She was joined in double figures by Valentina Vaulet with 11 kills and senior Cora Taylor tallied her second double-double of the season with 30 assists and 11 digs. Iva Sucurovic added nine kills coupled with a .583 hitting percentage and four blocks.
How It Happened: Oregon never trailed in the opening set, jumping out to an early 4-1 advantage. The lead was 15-11 at the media timeout but UC Riverside (2-6) pulled even at 19-all with the help of a few Oregon attack errors. However, the Ducks rattled off the next four points, a run featuring three kills by Meyers. On its second set point, UO got a service error from the Highlanders to clinch the opener.
Meyers had six kills on 10 swings in the first frame.
In a reverse of set one, UC Riverside took the early lead—up 4-0—in the second and never trailed. The Highlanders used a five-point push sandwiched around the media timeout to go ahead 17-10 and force Oregon to call a timeout of its own. The Ducks got as close as five but UCR closed it out on a 5-1 run to even the match at 1-all.
Riding the momentum of set two, UC Riverside won the first five points of the third and built a lead as high as six at 9-3. Oregon began to steady and chip away at its deficit, and with a kill by Vaulet, took its first lead of the set at 16-15. Like the first set, the third was tied at 19-19 when the Ducks put together four in a row, capping the push with a solo block by Ksenija Tomic.
Fellow freshman Alanah Clemente had back-to-back kills during the decisive push. Riverside saved two set points but Vaulet found the floor to complete the in-set comeback.
The fourth set was tied at 5-5 when Oregon created space on the scoreboard with a four-point run that featured consecutive kills from Clemente, Sucurovic and Ksenija Tomic. The lead eventually grew to 10 at 21-11 on a tandem block by Meyers and Sucurovic. Oregon closed out the match on a 7-1 run, ended with a service ace off the hand of freshman Kamden Mitchell.
Clemente came off the bench to contribute seven kills with a .312 efficiency while Tomic filled the box score with six kills, nine digs, two blocks and an ace.
UC Riverside was led by Sophia Ewalefo and Mia Delahoussaye with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Notable: Team hit .441 with 17 kills in the decisive fourth set … Meyers averaged 3.42 kills per set and hit .394 (41-4-94) during the three matches in Long Beach … Vaulet served up her team-leading 16th ace and now has at least one ace in each match this season … sixth-consecutive match with 10+ total team blocks; had 10.0 in Saturday's match.
Up Next: Oregon closes out its non-conference schedule with a pair of in-state road matches next week at Oregon State (Sept. 18) and Portland State (Sept. 19). Both will be streamed on ESPN+.
