PERSONAL — Born Aaron Craig Knowles on Jan. 4, 1984 in Springfield, Ore. Parents: Dean and Lisa Knowles. Family: One brother. High School (Coach): Springfield (Matt Binkerd) 2002. Junior College: College of the Siskiyous 2004. Major: Sociology. Redshirt: 2004.
HIGH SCHOOL — Completed 85 of 201 passes for 1,1117 yards and nine touchdowns his senior year to earn honorable mention all-Midwestern League plaudits at quarterback and second-team all-conference accolades as a punter. Ranked third in the league in passing yards and completions for the Millers in 2001 after he threw for 190 yards (11-35) as a part-time starter as a junior.
OREGON — The walk-on demonstrated a tremendous leg during the spring of 2005, which acted as a springboard to get onto the field as a junior. Brings great competition to the table and played a role in the improvement of team’s punting game.
2005 — Oregon’s punter of record in five games, leading team with 40.0 average. Averaged 43.5 yards on two kicks at Arizona State as well as 40 yards or better in two other games. Half of his punts were not returned and among the seven that were, opponents did so at a 9.1-yard clip. Planted one boot inside the 20 against USC in addition to booming his longest punt of the year (52 yards) vs. the Trojans. Averaged 38.3 yards on his final six punters (no returns) vs. Washington and Arizona before relingishing duties during squad’s last four games . Named to the Pac-10’s academic all-conference second team.
