Bio
PERSONAL — Born Daniel Ryan Kause on Oct. 3, 1984 in Orange, Calif. Parents: Dennis and Jennifer Kause. Family: Three sisters. High School (Coach): Servite (Larry Toner) 2003. Major: Political Science.
HIGH SCHOOL — Overcame a thumb injury which sidelined him most of his junior year to come on strong as a prep senior, grabbing 20 catches for 331 yards and one touchdown. The Serra League standout also created a presence as a blocker for the Friars, who averaged better than 190 yards per game on the ground and finished the season with a 7-4 mark. Selected to play in the state’s Al Malaikah Shrine all-star game. The three-year football letterman (tight end, linebacker and defensive end) also averaged 28 points a game as a junior on the basketball court.
OREGON — Injuries have been his biggest obstacle each of his last two seasons and have hampered his improvement at the line of scrimmage. Still seeking to regain his productivity from his freshman year and coaches are confident he possesses the tools to do so. Showcases the ability of an excellent receiver, with the current offense catering to his potential at the H-back position. Created the impression in past springs that he may be ready to bloom prior to being derailed once the fall rolls around. Must remain healthy in order to recapture the momentum he has benefitted from in the past, with off-season work in the weight room vital to his opportunity to make an impact. Caught one pass for 10 yards in the Spring Game.
2005 — A knee injury contributed to his absence in all but two of eight conference contests, making it difficult to get into the flow of the game. Caught passes against Montana (12 yards) and Arizona, taking part in 18 snaps in each.
2004 — Saw action in nine games, with his lone reception occurring vs. UCLA. Experienced the bulk of his playing time when Oregon’s starter was sidelined due to injuries, taking part in 27 snaps against UCLA and 21 at California.
2003 — Opportunity came knocking for this first-year player when injuries sidelined the Ducks’ more experienced tight ends early in the season. Played in all 13 games and got the starting nod vs. Utah in which he had his first career reception, a 10-yard gain for an Oregon first down. Went on to pick up a reception in each of the next two contests (Arizona State, Stanford). May have made freshman mistakes, but progressed as the season went on, playing extensively in Oregon’s final eight games of the season. Noted for his effort on special teams in the Washington game.
