With a broad array of college, high school and club experience, Matt Hartner returns in 2009-10 as a volunteer coach to the Duck coaching staff – a program he knows well after a five-season stint from 2002-2006.
In 2008-09, he served as the head coach for Mt. Hood Community College, and oversaw the program in all areas ranging from coaching, recruiting, travel, camps and community relations.
Last season, he also served as a varsity assistant coach and JV head coach at Gresham High School. The Gophers shined as one of the state’s top prep programs, and placed sixth in the state tournament.
In his prior experience with the Duck program, he served one season as an undergraduate assistant coach and four seasons as a manager. Among his many duties, he oversaw the Ducks' video needs, and provided integral roles in summer camps, practice planning, special equipment testing, and other inter-department relations.
At the club level he has worked extensively with one of the area’s top team teams, the Nike NW Juniors, and served as an assistant to the director for six years. He assisted the program in all areas, including coaching, facility management, camp planning, tournament scheduling, uniform and equipment distribution in his stints from 1998-2002 and 2007-09.
Apart from coaching, he played two seasons for the UO men’s volleyball club team, and as a prep athlete was a letterwinner in baseball, football, golf and skiing.
He graduated from the University of Oregon in 2006 with a B.A. in political science with a minor in business administration.
