PORTLAND, Ore. - The University of Oregon women's soccer team fell to Portland State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at PGE Park to wrap up a month-long road swing.
PSU scored first at 9:04 on a 10-yard shot by senior midfielder Annie Peccia on an assist by senior midfielder Julie Forrest. The Vikings scored again late in the final minute of regulation when sophomore midfielder Sophia Mundy beat Duck keeper Domenique Lainez at 89:33 from 6 yards out on a 1x1 opportunity created by Peccia.
Oregon freshman Kami Kapaku led Oregon with a game-high four shots, and junior defender Katie Abrahamson, sophomore forward Andrea Valadez and freshman midfielder Jen Cameron each added two attempts. Six Ducks mustered single shots on goal.
For PSU, freshman defender Julie Edwards led the home shot column (3), and three players had single shots on goal.
On defense, Oregon redshirt junior goalkeeper Domenique Lainez came up with one save, and PSU junior keeper Niki Brooks pulled in six saves.
In the team comparison, the Ducks held a 14-9 edge in shots and 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. PSU held a narrow edge in fouls (17-16).
One yellow card was assessed to Portland State junior midfielder Megan Plinski and also to the Oregon bench.
The win raised PSU's record to 2-5-1 on the season, and the Ducks fell to 1-6-1.
Looking ahead, the Duck women return home to Pape' Field for their first home matches since Aug. 29, and face Wyoming, Fri., Oct. 1 at 7 pm, and Gonzaga, Sun., Oct. 3 at 1 pm.
