UW Second Half Goals Drop Ducks 2-0
10/28/07 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE, Wash. ? Washington scored a pair of goals shortly after halftime to defeat Oregon 2-0 Sunday at Husky Soccer Field.
After a scoreless first half, Jenna Robinson put the Huskies on the board with a goal in the 50th minute. Robinson's goal came on a rebound off a Melissa Beal shot.
Less than four minutes later Beal made it 2-0 with a score from 15 yards out.
"There's not much to say," said Oregon coach Tara Erickson. "The first half was O.K., but we had a real breakdown after the first goal and never got back in control. We hit the crossbar twice, but we just couldn't get one in."
The loss dropped the Ducks to 8-7-1 on the season and 1-3-2 in the Pac-10. Washington improved to 5-9-1 and 2-2-1.
"It definitely wasn't the result we were looking for," said Erickson. "Give the Huskies credit. They were fired up for us and they wanted to win."
For the game, Oregon out-shot the Huskies 15-12. Jen Stoltenberg led the Ducks with five shots, while Danielle Sweeney and Jill Jensen each attempted three.
Jessie Chatfield had five saves for Oregon, while the Huskies' Taylor Carr made four saves in posting the shutout.
The game was delayed by two hours because officials assigned to the game encountered travel conflicts while trying to reach Seattle for the scheduled noon start time.
Oregon next faces Oregon State Friday in Corvallis.
