09/01/11 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore.- University of Oregon soccer (3-0) looks to keep building on their early season success as they host the annual Nike Tournament this Friday and Sunday at Pape' Field in Eugene.
New Hampshire (0-1), #17 Santa Clara (3-0) and #21 Oregon State (2-1) will take part in the tournament with the Ducks taking on New Hampshire on Friday at 7 p.m. and Santa Clara on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the tournament finale.
Oregon leads the all-time series with UNH, 1-0-0 and trails 0-2-0 in their series with SC. The only time the Ducks have played New Hampshire was in 2006 as they captured a 1-0 over the Wildcats in a tournament at Oregon State. UO first faced off with Santa Clara in 2000, falling 6-0 at Santa Clara and was edged again, 2-1, at Santa Clara last season.
Last time out, UO's Julie Armstrong netted her second goal of the season five minutes into Sunday's (Aug. 28) match to give Oregon a 1-0 victory over UNLV (1-3) at Pape' Field.
A mass of red and white uniforms gathered in front of the goal with each team attempting to gain possession of the ball, but it was Armstrong who slipped in on the right side of the goal to tip the ball in and give UO the early 1-0 advantage.
The victory got the Ducks get off to their best start since the 2007 campaign and gave UO its third consecutive shutout of the season, matching the mark for most consecutive shutouts in program history. The win also gave Oregon back-to-back home opener wins.
Live audio/video (O-Zone for a fee) and live statistics will be available at goducks.com.
Friday is Camper Appreciation Night where all UO summer soccer camp participants receive free admission to the Oregon -New Hampshire game. Friday is also a Bi-Mart Buy 2 for 1. Sunday will be Youth Day and Jr. Duck Day. Kids 12 and under receive $2 admission, while there is scheduled to be a free postgame autograph session with the team.
