GoDucks.com caught up with incoming freshman, Sylmar, Calif. native, Alyssa Hinojosa, to learn more about the defender.
How did you get into the sport of soccer?
When I was about 4-years-old, my mom put on me on an AYSO team. By the age of five, I played my first club game andf have been hooked ever since.Â
Did you play any other sports growing up?
I ran track from the age of 13 on for my local track team and competed in the Junior Olympics when I was in 8th grade. I continued running throughout high school.
Why did you choose the University of Oregon?
I chose the University of Oregon, because when I came on my unofficial visit, I knew this was the right place for me and the opportunities for me to be successful here seem unlimited.
Have you chosen a major or leaning towards a specific area of study?
I want to study the general sciences and hopefully become a doctor. I would like to help children with disabilities through my career.
What do you like to do in your free time when you're not training?
I like to hang out with friends and explore.
Who was your athletic role model growing up?
My role model growing up was Lionel Messi, because of how creative and smart he is on the ball.
What's your favorite part about playing soccer?
My favorite part about soccer is looking around and seeing how hard my teammates are working, which makes me not want to let them down.
Do you have any pre-match rituals or superstitions?
I write "STRONG" on my wrist and cleats, because it reminds me to always be tough and to have resilience in the life and the game.
