10/02/18 | Women's Soccer
Stanford makes its first appearance in Eugene since 2013 when the Ducks host the Cardinal Thursday at Pape' Field (5 p.m., Pac-12 Networks). The homestand continues Sunday against Cal (1 p.m., Pac-12 Live Stream).
KEY STORYLINES
• The 2018 season marks the 25th season in program history (1980-81; 1996-2018).
• The Ducks are No. 22 in this week's NCAA RPI, after reaching an all-time high for the program of No. 14 last week.
• Starting with Stanford, the Ducks will play five straight games against 2017 NCAA Tournament teams.
• The Ducks are 6-0 at home this season.
• Oregon's 7-3-1 start is the school's best since going 8-2-1 to open the 2009 season.
• The only statistical category that the Ducks rank in the national top 50 is goals against average (39th/0.71).
• Thursday's match will be the first time that the top-ranked team in the nation has played in Eugene since 2011 when then-No. 1 Stanford escaped with a 2-0 win.
SCOUTING STANFORD
The defending NCAA champion Cardinal are 10-0-1 on the season and are coming off a 1-0 overtime defeat of No. 2 USC. Stanford leads the league in shots per game (23.8) and is second in goals (2.64 per game). Individually, Catarina Macario and Sophia Smith have each found the net six times this season.
SCOUTING CALIFORNIA
The Golden Bears are off to a rare 0-3 start in Pac-12 play, having lost to Arizona State, USC and UCLA. Amanda Zodikoff ranks second in the league at 4.83 saves per game. Cal plays at Oregon State on Thursday before Sunday's meeting in Eugene.
RPI STILL HIGH
Despite dropping a pair of matches on the road last week in Washington, Oregon's RPI slipped just eight spots from an all-time high of No. 14 to No. 22. The Ducks are also still receiving votes in the coaches' poll.
NCAA TOURNAMENT TALK
Oregon is 2-1 versus teams that qualified for the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Ducks have defeated Stony Brook (2-1) and Clemson (1-0) and have lost to Washington State (2-1). Those were the first of nine NCAA Tournament teams on the Ducks' 2018 schedule. The rest include Stanford, California, Colorado, UCLA, USC and Arizona.
