Seniors Celebrated In Home Finale

Oregon's senior class was honored prior to Sunday's match, a tough, 1-0 loss to No. 13 UCLA.
EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon's back line handled itself with aplomb in the final homestand of the 2019 season, with the Ducks losing a second straight 1-0 decision to a top-15 team Sunday, this time to UCLA before 415 fans at Papé Field.
On Senior Day for the Ducks, senior goalkeeper Katelyn Carter and senior defender Alyssa Hinojosa helped lead the way as Oregon endured 20 shots by the No. 13 Bruins, three days after No. 11 USC had 17 shots in another 1-0 decision.
"They're so disciplined in what they do; they just keep coming at you," UO senior Taylor Kuroda said. "We really put up a fight. In years past maybe we get scored on four times, but this year we held our ground."

How It Happened: The Ducks (5-8-5, 1-7-2 Pac-12) endured relentless pressure from the Bruins (13-4-1). Shots in the first half were 12-1, with Oregon's only chance coming in the 15th minute when Chardonney Curran found some space just outside the left post but had her shot deflected wide of the net.
About 10 minutes later, the Bruins had a corner kick that set up the day's only goal. Anika Rodriguez sent a long crossing pass from the corner past the far post, where Ashley Sanchez sent it back in front of the goal for Lucy Parker to stuff it into the net.
The second half was a bit more even, with the Bruins holding an 8-3 advantage in shots. Emma Eddy and Ally Cook each recorded a shot on goal for the Ducks, but neither found its way into the net for the equalizer.
Who Stood Out: Carter had six saves to keep Oregon within a goal over the final 65 minutes of play.

What It Means: It was the final home appearance for a graduating class including Carter, Hinojosa, Kuroda, Eddy, Jessica Yu and Emily Kaestner, plus manager Jordan Melchor.
"I'm really proud of their journey here, and so thankful the coaching staff has been able to be part of it," UO coach Kat Mertz said. "We've had some highs, we've had some lows and they've really grown as young women."
Up Next: The Ducks play their season finale at Oregon State on Thursday (7 p.m., Pac-12 Network).
