Wormdahl Scores Again in Loss to No. 13 Santa Clara
08/25/19 | Women's Soccer
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Jordan Wormdahl scored for the second straight game but Oregon fell to No. 13 Santa Clara 4-1 Sunday at Stevens Stadium.
How It Happened: The Ducks (0-1-1) played even with the 13th-ranked team in the nation for nearly the entire first half, but Alex Loera scored from 35 yards out with just :28 remaining in the period to shift momentum to the Broncos' side.
Isabella D'aquila had two goals and an assist for Santa Clara (1-1).
Wormdahl, who scored twice in Thursday's opener at Fresno State, struck from distance to put Oregon on the board in the 57th minute.
Who Stood Out: After not finding the net as a freshman a year ago, Wormdahl has three goals in two games.
What It Means: Following a challenging opening weekend on the road, the Ducks return to Eugene for their home opener Friday against Portland State.
Quotable:
Head coach Kat Mertz
"Proud of our effort this weekend. We played a very good Santa Clara team and put them on their heels in the first half and created a lot of chances. We learned a lot and were able to play all of our freshmen. We are ready to get back to work this week."
Notable: Senior Taylor Kuroda saw her first action in nearly two years. She redshirted last season with a knee injury. Wormdahl made her first career start. Sophomore Charlotte Brisley made her first career appearance in net for the Ducks. Freshmen Maya Hahn, Caitlyn Shaw, Jordan Snyder and Sofia Vinas all made their Duck debuts.
Up Next: Oregon has it 2019 home opener at Pape' Field Friday at 7 p.m. against Portland State (Pac-12 Live Stream).
