Ducks Chasing More History at NCAAs

Oregon has won a combined 12 NCAA Indoor team titles—seven women, five men—in program history.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon track and field team is off to Birmingham, Ala., this weekend for the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Ducks have 14 national entries—seven men, seven women—for the two-day national meet which begins Friday, March 11, at the CrossPlex.
This marks the third time the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Birmingham, Ala. The Ducks swept the men's and women's team titles in 2016, the first year the meet was held there. The NCAAs returned to the CrossPlex in 2019.
The NCAA weekend begins Friday at 8 a.m. (PT) with UO standout Max Vollmer in the heptathlon. Click HERE for the full meet schedule.
How to Watch
The 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships will be streamed live on ESPN3 with separate links for each of the three daily sessions—multis, men's program, women's program. The commentary team features Dwight Stones, Jill Montgomery and Dan O'Brien with John Anderson trackside handling post-race interviews.

NCAA Indoor Championships
The Men of Oregon are the defending NCAA indoor champions are recording 79 points and six individual titles a year ago in Fayetteville, Ark. Collectively, the Ducks have won a combined 12 NCAA Indoor team titles—seven for the women, five for the men. The program has won eight of its 12 national indoor titles under head coach Robert Johnson.

One More Chance
Seven of Oregon's 14 NCAA entries came from the final weekend of qualifying at the Pac-12 Invitational and BU Last Chance meets. In Seattle, the Ducks had four national-qualifying efforts with Jadyn Mays in the women's 60 meters, Max Vollmer in the heptathlon and the UO women's 4x400 and DMR. At the BU meet, the UO men secured NCAA spots with Reed Brown and Jack Yearian in the mile to go along with Aaron Bienefeld in the 5,000 meters.
The Champs Are Here
Oregon returns four NCAA indoor champions from a season ago with Reed Brown (mDMR), Emmanuel Ihemeje (mTJ), Kemba Nelson (w60) and Micah Williams (m60). Brown will be seeking his first individual title as a qualifier in the mile for a fourth-time in his UO career. Ihemeje and Williams are both the No. 2 overall qualifier in their respective event and Nelson is tied for the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA ahead of this weekend's meet.
Ready for a Debut
Among the Ducks' list of national qualifiers, Iman Brown (w200), Alysah Hickey (wLJ), Jadyn Mays (w60) and Jack Yearian (mMile) are set to make their NCAA Indoor debut. Hickey finished in fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last June while Mays was a member of UO's 4x100-meter relay that advanced to last year's NCAA final. Brown is the first UO woman to qualify in the 200 meters since 2017.
Flying in the PNW
Dating back to 2009, the Women of Oregon have had at least one national qualifier at 60 meters in 13 of the past 14 years with multiple entries eight times (2010, '13-17, '21-22) in that time. Defending national champion Kemba Nelson is joined in the field by teammate Jadyn Mays; each with a season-best time of 7.15 from the Pac-12 Invitational (Feb. 26). The UO women have three NCAA titles in the 60 meters with English Gardner (2012), Hannah Cunliffe (2017) and Nelson (2022).
By a Mile
For an eighth-consecutive year, Oregon will have multiple entries in the NCAA field of the men's mile. In this year's field, the duo of Reed Brown and Jack Yearian will continue the streak for the Men of Oregon. In his three previous appearance, Brown is a two-time NCAA finalist in the mile including last year's fifth-place finish (3:57.62) in Fayetteville. Yearian, making his NCAA debut, is the No. 8 performer in collegiate history at 3:54.54 with his effort at the BU Last Chance (Feb. 27); Brown is No. 11 all-time with a 3:54.77 in the same race.
Freshman Four by Four
The Ducks' all-freshman 4x400-meter relay secured its spot at NCAAs with a season-best 3:32.64 at the Pac-12 Invitational (Feb. 26) in Seattle. With that performance, the quartet of Ella Clayton, Shaniya Hall, Katriina Wright and Shana Grebo became the eighth-fastest relay in program history. First run together at the Razorback Invitational, the team has lowered its time in each of the last three meets. Oregon has the only all-freshman lineup in the NCAA field this year.

Entering NCAA Championships, the Ducks have combined to register 27 current top-10 program indoor marks including 10 top-five performances with school records by Micah Williams in the men's 60 meters (6.48) and Alysah Hickey in the women's long jump (6.66m/21-10.25). Williams bettered his own record, set in winning the NCAA title last year, while Hickey replaced the jump of 6.65m/21-10 by Jenna Prandini from the 2015 NCAA meet. The Bowerman is Watching
For a second-consecutive update, reigning—and defending—NCAA 60-meter champion Micah Williams earned a spot on the pre-NCAA release of The Bowerman Watch List. Williams lowered his own school record to 6.48 at the season-opening Cougar Classic (Jan. 15) and matched that time two weeks later at the Razorback Invitational (Jan. 29). The Portland, Ore., native has five 6.55 or faster performances this season.
In the Rankings
The UO men were up two spots to a season-high No. 4 ranking in the March 7 release of the USTFCCCA rating index. The Women of Oregon also reached a season-high ranking of No. 11 entering the national meet.
