Ducks Return Home to Face CBU, Denver
09/06/23 | Women's Soccer
After 21 days on the road, Oregon returns to Papé Field for a pair of matches against California Baptist (Thurs., 7 p.m.) and Denver (Sun., 1 p.m.). Both matches will be on Pac-12 Network.
ON THE PITCH
• The Ducks are one of the youngest teams in the nation. Oregon's 29-player roster features 15 freshmen (10 true freshman, 5 RS-freshmen), 9 sophomores, 4 juniors, no seniors and 1 fifth-year player.
• Oregon's freshmen have accounted for 62.2 percent of the team's shots (23-of-37) and have made nearly half of the team's starts (27-of-55; 49.1 percent). Oregon started seven freshmen Aug. 27 at Missouri State. The Ducks have started five or more freshman in each of the last four matches. Duck freshman have also registered both of the team's assists and scored one of two goals.
• Oregon has already faced three teams picked to win their respective conferences - Arkansas (SEC), Missouri State (MVC) and Northern Arizona (Big Sky). In conference action, Oregon will play five straight matches against teams that advanced to the 2022 NCAA Tournament: USC (Oct. 5), defending NCAA champion UCLA (Oct. 8), Arizona State (Oct. 13), Stanford (Oct. 19) and California (Oct. 22). The Ducks played the 11th-toughest schedule in the nation in 2022 according to the final NCAA RPI report.
• This will be Oregon's first game with CBU. In the only previous meeting against Denver, the Ducks upset the 21st-ranked Pioneers, 4-1, in a tournament in Boulder, Colo., during the 2009 season.
• Sunday's game will be Oregon Soccer's first "Pups on the Pitch" promotion. Fans may bring their canine family members.
WEEK 3 RECAP: FRESHMEN ASSISTS AND A GOAL
The Ducks wrapped up their four-game road trip by dropping a pair of matches to Northern Arizona (3-2) and Grand Canyon (1-0). The Ducks tied the game twice against the Lumberjacks (Aug. 27), first on Callan Harrington's goal in the 11th minute and then in the 75th minute on freshman Ryann Reynolds' first career goal, before NAU went ahead in the 77th minute. Freshmen Kristen Conti and Lauren Kenny each recorded the first assist of their career in that match.
