Ducks Sweep Ohio State at MKA
10/04/25 | Women's Volleyball
Oregon improved to 11-3 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play with Saturday’s victory.
EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon volleyball team swept its way past Ohio State Saturday evening in front of a season-high 2,976 fans at Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks held the Buckeyes to a .117 hitting clip on their way to the 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 victory, completing the home weekend back-to-back with a second win in as many days.
With the result, Oregon improved to 11-3 overall and evened its Big Ten record at 2-2.
Alanah Clemente led the team with 10 kills to go along with three blocks and a pair of service aces. She was one of four UO players with at least five kills followed by Valentina Vaulet with eight, Iva Sucurovic with seven and Sophia Meyers with five.
Defensively, the Ducks limited OSU to a season-low hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Holley McFadden led all players with seven blocks and fellow freshman Natalie Fukumoto picked up eight digs. From the service line, Clemente now has an ace in six-consecutive matches with at least two in the past three.
How It Happened: Ohio State (3-9, 0-4) led by as much as five—up 10-5—in the first set before Oregon began to chip away and pulled event at 14-all on an ace by Reese Sheppard, another UO freshman. Out of the media timeout, the Ducks put together a three-point run to take the lead for good in the opener. The visitors kept it close but Oregon used a late three-point surge to take a 24-20 lead with the help of kills from Clemente and Meyers.
On set point, McFadden and Meyers teamed up for a block to give their team the 1-0 match lead.
The Buckeyes won the first point of the second but Oregon responded with a 7-0 run, anchored in the serve of Vaulet. This time it was Ohio State's turn to push back, eventually pulling to within one—UO leading 18-17—after an ace by Hannah Jones. The Ducks, however, would not relinquish their hold on the set, answering immediately with four in a row.
Vaulet brough the team to set point with a kill for 24-20 and an OSU attack error to end the next rally pushed the Oregon lead to two sets to none.
Another Vaulet service run gave the Ducks a 5-1 lead to start the third set and the home squad never looked back. The score was 12-9 when Oregon rattled off eight of the next nine points with a tandem block by Meyers and Iva Sucurovic capping the run. Clemente put down her final kill to give Oregon a handful of match points, and on its third chance to close it out, the team turned to Vaulet who tallied the last kill of the match.
Kaia Castle and Jones led Ohio State with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
Notable: Sixth-consecutive win over Ohio State; now leads the series 7-1 … Vaulet has an ace in 13 of the team's 14 matches this season … first sweep since beating Long Beach State (Sept. 12) … program's 149th win at Matthew Knight Arena (149-55) and 94th conference win at MKA … 65th career conference win for head coach Trent Kersten.
Up Next: Oregon takes on No. 17 USC this Thursday, Oct. 9 (6 p.m., FS1). The Ducks are back home next Sunday, Oct. 12, to host Washington (1 p.m., BTN).
