Ducks Earn Draw with Three Goals in Final 16 Minutes
10/11/26 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore. – Down 1-0 in the second half and struggling to build some momentum, Oregon needed a spark. Goalkeeper Kailey Kimball provided it.
Â
Kimball stopped an Iowa penalty kick in the 60th minute and a reenergized Duck squad that fought its way to a 3-3 tie against Iowa Sunday in front of 797 at Papé Field.
Â
The Hawkeyes (6-4-5 overall, 1-3-4 in the Big Ten) didn't make things easy on Oregon (6-5-3, 1-5-2) with goals in the 65th and 80th minutes following Kimball's save.
Â
But after falling behind by two goals twice in the second half, the Ducks clawed their way back to earn a draw by scoring three goals in the final 16 minutes.
Â
Carly Cormack broke Oregon's four-match scoreless streak with a strike from distance in the 75th minute.
Â
"That was a banger," said coach Tracy Joyner. "It's so fun to score goals like that. Not just for her, but for the team. I think it's so fun when a special player, one of your captains, one of your leaders has a moment like that.
Â
"I think it shifted the energy," said Joyner. "Kaylee Kimball saving a PK shifted our energy. So those two moments, when you ask players to meet the moment, that's what it looks like. That was on full display."
Â
Cailin Bloom and Kylie Farmer teamed up to score Oregon's next two goals that tied the match. Bloom scored off Farmer's deflected shot in the 82nd minute. Two minutes later, Farmer scored her first collegiate goal off a header by Bloom that bounced off an Iowa defender.
Â
"That feels really good because we didn't score just one goal," said Farmer. "We scored three goals, and they weren't the prettiest, but we worked till the end. We were down 3-1, and then we came back. So it feels good to earn that point."

Â
How It Happened: Iowa's goal in the seventh minute put the Ducks into a 1-0 hole early. The Hawkeyes outshot Oregon 6-4 in the first half as the Ducks struggled to build a sustained attack in Iowa's half of the field.
Â
Joyner decided to change the Ducks' formation at halftime and that opened the game up for Oregon.
Â
The Ducks got off four shots in the first 12 minutes after halftime – three from Ellie Felt and another from Bloom.
Â
That initial push seemed to stall when a video review of a foul in the 18-yard box gave Iowa a penalty kick in the 60th minute. But Kimball dove low to her left to stop Kylie Cino's attempt as both the Oregon bench and the Papé Field crowd roared to life.
Â
Iowa did score in the 65th minute for a 2-0 lead, but the Ducks kept fighting.

Â
In the 75th minute, Cormack picked off a failed clearance attempt by the Hawkeyes and found the top of the net from 25 yards out. She curved her team-leading fifth goal of the season over the outstretched arms of Iowa goalie Braelynn Galt to cut Iowa's lead in half.
Â
"The energy shifted when Kailey blocked her PK and when Carly scored that banger," said Bloom. "We felt like we're all in this together, and we're going to get this.
Â
"That's all it was," said Bloom. "It just took one moment, and we always say that it only takes one. It only takes one for us to believe on the bench, to cheer louder, for people on the field to be working even harder and getting into those tackles. It's a domino effect, once you get one, you open the gates, and the other team loses that confidence and slows down. We picked up and kept going with our momentum."
Â
The back-and-forth between the Ducks and Hawkeyes continued into the 80th minute on Reilly Heman's second goal of the game as Iowa again went ahead by two goals at 3-1.
Â
That set the stage for Oregon's dramatic rally in the final 10 minutes.

Â
In the 82nd minute, Farmer drove a long, high ball from the right side that Heman batted away at the goal line. The ball fell to Bloom's feet and she one-timed a shot home from point-blank range to make it 3-2.
Â
Bloom's attack set up Farmer's game-tying goal in the 84th minute. Cormack started the scoring play on a corner kick from the right side. Bloom got to the ball at the far post and headed a shot that hit an Iowa defender and fell to Farmer, who poked the ball into the net with her right foot.
Â
"Sunday games are not the prettiest soccer by any means," said Joyner. "And we needed a result like that. We needed a game like that to come from behind and get a result not playing pretty soccer."

Â
Notable: Junior Abella Hunter returned to the field for the first time since being injured in the Utah game on Sept. 3. … Farmer's goal and assist were both career firsts. … Bloom's assist was the first of her career, while the goal was her third. … She also attempted a career-high four shots. … Cormack's goal was the 10th of her career. Sunday the Ducks recognized their five seniors – Bloom, Kimball, Taylor Dever, Ella Osmussen and Lauren Kenny. … Kenny has announced that she will return for her fifth year next fall.

"I lean into it. In the beginning, super grateful, grateful for my parents who are here, grateful for my team, my coaches. It just gives me so much energy. I wanted to score on my senior day, and that's what went into how good I was offensively today."
