Goodell Scores Late but Ducks Fall 3-1 at No. 12 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. ? The Ducks scored late in their contest with No. 12 Oklahoma State but the Cowgirls NCAA-leading offense built a 3-0 lead that proved insurmountable and Oregon lost its first game in more than a month, 3-1, on Sunday night at OSU's Cowgirl Corral.
Oregon fell to 7-3-1 with the loss while Oklahoma State improved to 10-1-1.
“We played with them and kept fighting but they are a good team,” said head coach Tara Erickson. “They are athletic but also very soccer savvy.”
Oklahoma State entered the weekend with a nation-leading 41 goals scored before suffering its first loss of the season on Friday night at No. 7 Texas A&M.
The Cowgirls struck first in the eighth minute of the game with the gusty prairie winds at their backs. OSU's Katie Richardson added her third goal of the season on a long blast from 14-yards out that snuck just inside the far post. The teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the opening period with Oklahoma State leading 1-0 at halftime.
The Cowgirls added two more goals after the break, with Richardson adding another score and Yolanda Odenyo scoring her 10th goal of the season, before Oregon's Jessica Goodell added her fourth goal of the year in the 81st minute of the Ducks' final non-conference game of the season.
During an Oregon corner kick, the ball was blocked away from the net by Oklahoma State keeper Erin Stigler but directly at Goodell, who fired a one-touch volley through the OSU defense and into the back of the net.
It was only the 10th goal allowed by Oklahoma State this season and sixth score of Goodell's career.
With wind gusts approaching 30 mph and a hard playing surface, the action was fast-paced and shots and passes carried much further than normal.
“It was a challenge to play with the windy conditions,” Erickson said. “It was a very tough place to play.”
Oregon keeper Cody Miles recorded three saves while playing all 90 minutes of the contest.
The Cowgirls edged the Ducks by just one in the shots tally, with 18 to Oregon's 17.
Oregon will stay on the road to begin its Pac-10 schedule with a trip to the Bay Area to battle Stanford on Friday night at 7 p.m. and California on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
