4xMile Takes Second at Penn Relays
04/25/15 | Track and Field
PHILADELPHIA – After two exciting wins on Friday, the Oregon track and field team was represented in one last event at the Penn Relays on Saturday taking second place in the men's 4xMile relay.
The team of Daniel Winn, Johnny Gregorek, Will Geoghegan and Edward Cheserek finished in a time 16:18.93. The Ducks held a slight edge through the first three legs as Winn, Gregorek and Geoghegan each ran 4:01 mile splits.
The final leg was a tactical one, setting up for an exciting finish. The pace slowed as no team wanted to take the lead, but with 300 meters left, competitors started making their moves. Coming around the final turn, it became a two-man race between Cheserek and Jordan Williamsz of Villanova, reminiscent of Friday's distance medley relay finish which resulted in an Oregon win. This time, Williamsz was too much for Cheserek as he finished just ahead of the Oregon sophomore in 16:18.07.
Oregon finished the weekend with two Penn Wheels, winning the men's distance medley relay and the women's sprint medley relay on Friday.
The Ducks will be back in action next weekend at the OSU High Performance Meet on Friday, May 1 and the Payton Jordan Invitational on Saturday, May 2.
