Ducks Draw with Vikings in Exhibition
08/12/16 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw wiith the Portland State Vikings in an exhibition match on Friday night at Papé Field.
"For us, I think that with tonight being the first time we were able to see action against another team, we had some really bright spots," said head coach Kat Mertz. "From here, we're going to go back and watch the film, fix what we need to fix and clean it up.
"For this exhibition, we wanted to mix things up and figure out those relationships that work," Mertz said. "We created some really good opportunities where I thought we were going to be able to put one away, but it's all about the learning experience and I think we learned some really great things."
Sophomore Marissa Everett put the Ducks on board first in in the 70th minute off an assist from freshman Alyssa Hinojosa.
For Portland State, Breanne Chilton-Eddy scored off service from Krystal de Ramos with four minutes left in play to tie up the score.
On the night, the Ducks tallied 18 shots to the Vikings' 5 and Oregon was able to earn seven corner kick opportunities.
Freshman Katelyn Carter earned two saves for Oregon.
Looking Ahead: The Ducks will open the 2016 regular season on the road in Honolulu, Hawaii. First up, Oregon will go head-to-head against the Rainbow Wahine on Aug. 19 (10:00 p.m. PT), followed by a match-up with Gonzaga on Aug. 21 at 4:30 p.m. PT. The Ducks will play the first regular-season home game at Papé Field on Aug. 26 against Nebraska.
