08/20/16 | Women's Soccer
HONOLULU – The Oregon women's soccer team went into double overtime with Hawaii in Friday night's 2016 regular-season opener at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium. After a full 110 minutes, the match ended in a tie, 1-1.
"Overall, we saw some pretty quality moments tonight," said head coach Kat Mertz. "Both sides played hard and it was a test for our team to open the season with a tough opponent on the road. This was a great first test in preparation for the season we have ahead of us."
Sophomore Kyra Fawcett provided the Ducks with the team's lone goal in the 3rd minute of the first half. Sophomore Bayley Bruner and Marissa Everett fed the double assist.
In the 16th minute of play, Hawaii responded with a goal of their own as Sonest Furtado found the back of the net unassisted.
On the night, the Ducks tallied 24 shots to Hawaii's 14 and Oregon was able to earn 13 corner kick opportunities.
Fawcett contributed seven shots for the Ducks, while Everett notched five and Bruner had four. Redshirt senior Maryn Beutler, senior Marlo Sweatman and freshman Jayne Lydiatt each tallied two shots, while freshmen Jessica Yu and Artrea Williams both contributed one.
In goal, freshman Katelyn Carter made seven saves for Oregon (0-0-1).
