Williams Adds Another Program Record
03/17/19 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Shannon Williams broke another Oregon program record by scoring her 147th career goal to become UO's all-time leader during the Ducks' 14-5 loss to No. 22 Southern California at Pape Field on Sunday afternoon.
Williams surpassed Jana Drummond's previous school record of 146 career goals (2009-12). The senior captain adds the achievement to her already extensive list of UO program records, including career points (232), career points per game (3.80), career goals per game (2.40), points in a single season (74; 2018) and points per game in a single season (4.24; 2017).
How It Happened: USC scored the opening five goals of the game in the first eight minutes, before sophomore attacker Lillian Stump put the Ducks on the board with a goal at the 21:13 mark off an assist from Williams. That would be the only goal the Ducks would muster in the first half, as the Trojans scored three more goals to take an 8-1 lead into the break.
Williams handed out another assist to freshman attacker Carlie Leach four minutes into the second half, but that goal came in the midst of a 6-1 run by USC to open the second half. Oregon was able to finish the game strong, scoring the final three goals for the final 14-5 outcome. Williams opened the run with her record-breaking goal off an assist from freshman Jamie Level. Sophomore attacker Marlee Moon Gaddy followed with her second goal of the season off a free position shot at the 8:20 mark, while midfielder Haileigh Farrell closed out the game with her first goal of the season.
Notables: Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Hall registered double-digits saves for the sixth time this season with 17 saves … Hall made 10 of her 17 saves in the first half … Level led the Ducks defensively with four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Up Next: Oregon will play just one game over the next nine days and will hit the road to take on No. 23 Colorado on Saturday, March 23.
