THE DUCKS vs. THE SUN DEVILS
Friday's clash between Oregon and Arizona State will be the eighth meeting between the teams. The Sun Devils have gotten the best of the series of late, taking the last five meetings. This matchup has gone to overtime twice in that span, including a double overtime contest in 2019 and in the most recent matchup on April 15, 2022, in Eugene. Arizona State is off to a 1-5 start in the first year under head coach Taryn VanThof.
OREGON LOSES STEAM AGAINST STANFORD
The Ducks pushed Stanford throughout the first half but could not keep pace with the No. 21 Cardinal in an 18-8 defeat. Sophomore Gabby Cleveland carried the offensive load for the Ducks, scoring six of Oregon's seven goals in the first half. Despite the early pressure on the defending Pac-12 champions, Oregon could not keep up after being outscored 10-1 in the second half.
» Sophomore Haley Taylor (two assists) finished last Sunday's game with her third multi-assist game of the season.
» Paige Crowther made the second start of her career and the season. The sophomore finished with a career-best 13 saves, her second double-digit save performance.
QUACK ATTACK
The Oregon offense has flashed tremendous versatility throughout the 2023 season. The Ducks have gained production from all across the roster with 13 players scoring a goal and 11 recording an assist. Oregon has been aggressive attacking the cage, finishing with 40 shots in the opener against Xavier and 39 shots against Kennesaw State, both of which would have been season highs a year ago.
» Oregon ranks in the top 10 nationally in fewest turnovers per game (sixth), committing just 11.14 per contest.
» A trio of sophomores have helped replace last season's offensive production. Cleveland is second on the teams both in goals (17) and points (18). Lauren Rismani leads the Ducks with 13 assists, the most by a Duck in a season since 2019. Rismani is third on the team in points (17) and enters the weekend second in the Pac-12 in assists. Haley Taylor is fourth in points (15) and became the first Oregon player since 2021 to win Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week.
» Six Oregon players have scored a hat trick this season, while 12 Ducks have netted multiple goals in a game. Nine have totaled three-or-more points through the first seven games, including four players with five-plus point outings.
