Ducks Host Oregon Twilight Friday Night

EUGENE, Ore. – To close out the 2023 regular season, the Oregon track and field team is home Friday to host the Oregon Twilight at Hayward Field. The meet begins at 12 p.m. with three field events beginning within 10 minutes of one another including the men's hammer and pole vault.

A recognition of the meet officials will kick off the running session at 4:30 p.m., and as is tradition at the Oregon Twilight, the 2023 UO senior class will be honored at 5:15 p.m.

The Oregon Twilight will also feature community events that include a kid's half-lap run with The Duck at 6:45 p.m. and a UO Student Field Day and donut relay following the meet at approximately 9 p.m.

In addition to the Ducks, the field will include entries from Boise State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Portland and Portland State. Friday's meet will have participants from more than 40 schools and clubs.

The final section of the women's 1500 meters will feature four runners ranked among the top 30 in the NCAA this season including Ducks' Klaudia Kazimierska (4:11.15) and Maddy Elmore (4:13.21). The race will also have Laura Pellicoro of Portland (4:11.63), Kaylee Mitchell of Oregon State (4:13.48) and Adams State standout Stephanie Cotter, the two-time NCAA Division II champion in the event.

The women's 1500 meters begins at 7:51 p.m. Courtney Frerichs, Olympic silver medalist and American record holder in the steeplechase, is also entered in Friday's race.

The McChesney men's 1500 meters (8:34 p.m.) will be the penultimate event of the night. The Ducks are set to be represented by James Gormley, one of six entered with a best of 3:42 or faster. The race is also set to feature Oregon junior Elliott Cook—running unattached—and Matt Strangio of Portland, currently ranked 15^th in the NCAA.

Jaida Ross, third in the Pac-12 and 12^th in the NCAA in the discus, will highlight the event that gets going at 6:45 p.m. She enters the weekend with a best of 57.63m/189-1 from the Triton Invite (April 7). Ross is set to be joined by teammate Mine De Klerk who will be looking to improve her NCAA West Region spot for postseason qualifying. She carries a season-best mark of 51.68m/169-7 from last week's Desert Heat Classic.

Similarly, a pair of Oregon natives registered season bests last weekend with Kwabena Lynn (Tualatin) running 10.58 over 100 meters at the OSU High Performance and Mason Strunk (Salem) posting a mark of 65.27m/214-2 at the Desert Heat Classic. Lynn's time doubles as his collegiate best, improving on his 10.74 from last season.

Both are entered to compete at the Oregon Twilight. The men's hammer begins at 12:05 p.m. and the men's 100 is set for 6:18 p.m. Lynn is also scheduled to run the 200 meters.

Friday will be the season debut for Shana Grebo who is entered in the 200 and 400 meters. The 400 is slated to start at 5:42 p.m.
