Goldberg Earns First Career Shutout
08/27/23 | Women's Soccer
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Maddy Goldberg made a career-high eight saves to earn her first career shutout as Oregon and Missouri State played to a 0-0 tie Sunday at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.
Â
Goldberg had a highlight reel save in each half to keep Missouri State (3-0-1) out of the net, while the attack for Oregon (0-2-1) built throughout the second half and nearly produced a goal as the Ducks fired six shots at the Bears' net in the final 11 minutes of the match.
Â
"From a performance perspective, today much more complete," said head coach Graeme Abel. "I thought we chased and pressed with much more energy. We certainly grew bigger into the game and as a group."

Â
How It Happened: Goldberg made five saves to keep the Bears out of the net in the first half, including a highlight stop in the 30th minute. MSU's Hailey Palmer ripped a line drive from the top of the box, but Goldberg dove to her right and snagged the ball out of the air for the save.
Â
The Ducks generated a handful of scoring opportunities in the opening period. Myra Schneider may have had the best look when she drilled a free kick from the left side toward the net, but Bears' keeper Camielle Day came up with the stop.
Â
Oregon was the attacking team out of the break and outshot MSU 9-8 in the second half.
Â
After Goldberg made her second diving save of the match in the 56th minute, the Ducks turned up the pressure at the other end.
Â
On the counterattack, Lauren Kenny sent a shot on frame that was cleared by a defender in the 57th minute. A few moments later, Cameron Bourne fired a strike that just sailed over the crossbar.

Â
Oregon's offense relentlessly pursued the first goal of the match over the final 11 minutes.
Â
Trinity Morales had an open look at the left side of the net in the 80th minute, but her shot was blocked by a defender.
Â
Kaitlyn Paculba raced down the right side and fired at close range in the 84th minute and Ajanae Respass followed with a shot in the box in the 85th minute, but both attempts were saved by Day.
Â
The Ducks' last look came in the 88th minute when Anna Phillips got her head on a corner kick, but couldn't quite get enough momentum on her shot to make it past Day.
Â
Morales, Paculba and Respass led Oregon with two shots each.

Â
Notable: Goldberg's eight saves were one better than the seven saves she made in the 2023 season opener against Baylor … Kenny and Ella Osmussen and made their first career starts on Sunday. They were among seven freshmen who started for the Ducks against the Bears … For the game, MSU outshot the Ducks by one, 13-12, but the Ducks had the edge in corner kicks, 6-4 … It was the first meeting between Oregon and Missouri State … This was the second of a four-game road trip for Oregon.
Â
Quotable:
Head coach Graeme Abel
"We are disappointed we didn't capitalize on the scoring chances we created in the last 10 minutes of the game. However, the clean sheet is a positive and we walk out with some really positive performances."
Â
Up Next: Oregon's road trip continues Thursday at Northern Arizona (7 p.m., ESPN+).
