
Split Weekend at Eagle Elite, Don Kirby

The TRACK at new balance will host next month's NCAA Indoor Championships.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon track and field team resumes its indoor slate this weekend with a pair of meets starting Friday morning. The distance crew is in Boston for the Eagle Elite Invitational while the Ducks' sprints, jumps and throws groups are in Albuquerque, N.M., for the Don Kirby Invitational.
The Eagle Elite meet, hosted by Boston College, is being held at the TRACK at new balance, the site of next month's NCAA Indoor Championships (March 8-9).
Friday's schedule for the Ducks will be highlighted by entries in the 800 meters and mile. The day will begin with Anika Thompson in the 5,000 meters at 9 a.m. (PT). Sections of the 800 and mile are set to start at 11:35 a.m. and 2:10 p.m., respectively.
The UO women enter the weekend with three runners—Klaudia Kazimierska, Maddy Elmore and Silan Ayyildiz—ranked among the top 20 nationally in the mile. All three entered in Friday's mile along with teammates Mia Barnett, Dalia Frias and Ella Nelson. Kazimierska and Elmore recorded season bests of 4:31.87 and 4:33.04, respectively, at the UW Indoor Preview (Jan. 13) while Ayyildiz ran 4:34.79 in her Oregon debut at the Razorback Invitational (Jan. 27).
Barnett and Nelson are entered in both the 800 and mile Friday in Boston.
In the men's 800, the UO trio of Matthew Erickson, Tomas Palfrey and James Harding all sit inside the top 45 on the NCAA season performance list. Erickson is currently No. 22 in the country with a time of 1:47.92 from the Razorback Invitational. Palfrey and Harding aren't far behind at 1:48.79 (No. 38) and 1:48.97 (45), respectively.
Palfrey is scheduled for double duty, set to return for the mile with Benjamin Balazs, Sergio Del Barrio, Aiden Smith and Izaiah Steury.
The Ducks' first day at the Don Kirby will feature invitational sections of the 200 meters where Jadyn Mays ranks sixth nationally with at 22.99 from the Razorback Invitational. Mays is one of six Oregon women in the event, joined by Shana Grebo, Shaniya Hall, Lily Jones, Brazil Neal and Alexa Rossum.
Friday's field action will include UO entries in the pole vault, high jump, long jump and weight throw. Mason Strunk, the No. 2 performer in program history, has a season-best measure of 20.70m/67-11 which ranks 41st nationally in the weight throw. He owns a career best of 20.84m/68-4.5 from 2022.
The weekend will also include the Oregon debut of Cheyla Scott, an NCAA East Preliminary qualifier in the high jump.
Sections of the women's invitational 200 meters start at 5:50 p.m. (PT). The slate of field events will begin at 9 a.m. with the 'B' flight of the men's pole vault. The FloTrack stream is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
At the end of the regular season, the top 16 declared athletes in each event and top 12 relays advance to the national meet.
