Bourne’s Brace Paces Ducks
09/01/24 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore. – Cameron Bourne scored twice off the bench to lead Oregon to a 2-1 victory over Cal State Northridge Sunday at Papé Field.
It was the third straight win at home for the Ducks who improved to 3-2 on the season.
Bourne, a sophomore forward from Everett, Wash., has three goals in her last two games; her first career goal came a week ago at New Mexico.
"This season we have been talking a lot about making a change when you get into the game and I feel like we've seen that a lot, "said Bourne. "Everyone's been going and going at pace getting to goal so I think that's great."

How It Happened: As has been the case at home in 2024, Oregon peppered the CSUN goal from the opening whistle. The Ducks attempted five of their season-high 25 shots in the first 14 minutes.
Bourne finally broke through with a goal just before halftime. Taylor Person found Lucy Green down the right and sideline led her with a pass behind the CSUN defense. On her first touch, Green sent a low line drive to Bourne, who redirected the pass into the left side of the net.
The Ducks again worked the right corner to make it 2-0 shortly after intermission.
Grace Mensah beat everyone to a ball just outside the penalty box. She ripped a hard cross that Haley McWhirter got a foot to and left the ball for Bourne who fired a shot home from close range in the 50th minute for the eventual game-winner.
It was Mensah's team-leading third assist of the season.
Lauren Kenny nearly put the game away for the Ducks with a strike in the 71st minute but her shot hit the near post.
The Matadors (1-5) cut the lead in half with a goal in the 86th minute, but Oregon was able to close out the final four minutes for the win.
"Obviously when you score a couple of goals and stuff like that, it's a good thing, the hardest thing to do in our sport," said head coach Graeme Abel. "I think, you know, we had some really good moments, stacked some really good moments together.
"I think the lesson moving forward for us is we've got to stack more of those moments together and not take our foot off the gas," said Abel. "So, happy to get the win, some really good moments, but we want to continue to learn and build upon those good moments and keep stacking them, so we get more and more of them."
Maddy Goldberg made six saves in goal for the Ducks.

Notable: Bourne became the first Duck to record a brace since Eden Hardy on Aug. 29, 2021, against Northern Arizona. … It was the first assist on the year for both Green and Person. … Taylor Bryan attempted a career-high five shots, while Ella Osmussen had a career-best three shot attempts … This was the first game between Oregon and CSUN in 25 years.
Quotable:
Forward Cameron Bourne on her first career brace
"I think it was great. I've been wanting that and it's what I've been looking forward to. Getting reps in practice and keep going. Last week I got one on the road, but it's much better getting one at home."
Goalkeeper Maddy Goldberg
"It felt good to be out there. It's always nice to be back at home, especially after a tough away trip, but I think the team did great. We executed and the goal at the end sucks, but we got the win at the end of the day."

Up Next: Oregon plays at Texas Tech Thursday at 5 p.m. Pacific Time (ESPN+) before hosting Sacramento State in the nonconference finale Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. (B1G+).
