Ducks Prepare for Big Ten Opener Versus No. 22 UCLA
09/12/24 | Women's Soccer
Oregon plays its first Big Ten game against and old Pac-12 rival - No. 22 UCLA - Saturday night at Papé Field (7 p.m., B1G+).
ONE-TIMERS
• The Ducks are 4-0 at home this season, have out-scored their opponents 7-1 and hold a 90-34 edge in shots.
• Oregon's four-match home winning streak is the team's longest since winning four straight over the course of the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Oregon also has a five-match home unbeaten streak (4-0-1) dating back to last season, which is the program's longest since a seven-game streak that spanned the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
• Makoto Nezu became the sixth different Duck to score a goal this season when she converted a penalty kick in Oregon's 2-0 win over Sacramento State on Sunday.
• GK Maddy Goldberg recorded her fourth career shutout - and third this season - against Sacramento State. She's tied with Domenique Lainez (2001-05) for seventh in UO career shutouts.
• The Ducks' 11 assists have been recorded by seven different players - three by Grace Mensah, two from Haley McWhirter and Lexi Lerwick and one each for Lucy Green, Sydney Hennessey, Lauren Kenny and Taylor Person.
• GK Maddy Goldberg is tied for fourth in the Big Ten with three shutouts and is fourth in the league in total saves (23).
GOLDBERG TIED FOR SEVENTH IN UO CAREER SHUTOUTS
Maddy Goldberg now has four career shutouts - three this season - and is tied for seventh in the UO career list with Domenique Lainez (2001-05).
NEW FACES
Oregon welcomed a mix of young and veteran new players for 2024. Among the 16 newcomers are eight freshmen, a sophomore three seniors and four fifth-year players. Thirteen newcomers have seen action so far.
"GRANDMA SEASONS"
Coined by Taylor Bryan in the aftermath of her game-winner against Seattle, Oregon has seven players in their "grandma season" (fifth year) of eligibility thanks to the NCAA's Covid policy. In addition to Bryan, others playing their fifth season in college include Sydney Cradle, Lucy Green, Sydney Hennessey, Haley McWhirter, Makoto Nezu and Jayd Sprague. All seven of those players have NCAA Tournament experience - Bryan at Virginia Tech, Cradle with Towson, Green at Mississippi, Hennessey with Tennessee, McWhirter at Mississippi State, Nezu an NCAA champion with Santa Clara and Sprague at Idaho. Because they played in the 2020 Covid season and subsequently redshirted, both Bryan and Hennessey actually have another year of eligibility remaining and could return for a sixth season.
GOLDBERG CLIMBS CAREER SAVES LIST
Maddy Goldberg made her 100th career save in the season opener against Seattle and currently ranks ninth in school history with 117.
