PERSONAL ? Born Shawn Michael Perkins on July 10, 1983 in Portland, Ore. Parents: Mike Flannagan and Terry Perkins. Family: Two brothers, two sisters. High School (Coach): Pendleton (Bo Yates) 2002. Major: Political Science. Redshirt: 2002.
HIGH SCHOOL ? The second-team all-state defensive lineman (Oregonian) earned first-team all-Intermountain League accolades on both offense and defense as a prep senior after receiving first-team all-conference defensive kudos his junior year. Tabbed as one of the state's top defensive line prospects by SuperPrep magazine and drew regional acclaim from PrepStar after accumulating 11 quarterback sacks among his 50 tackles as a prep senior. The two-year starter and 2001 team defensive MVP established the school's weight lifting records for the Buckaroos, who advanced to the state quarterfinals with a 10-2 record his final fall.
OREGON ? It can be difficult to gauge the strides one makes when they spend most of the spring locked up with one of the better defensive linemen in the country and such was the dilemma for the four-game career starter. Yet he competed well and certainly because of it. Encountered an encouraging spring as it’s now time for him to step up his performance to match his level of experience. Made technical improvement in the spring and coaches now anxious to see if improvement carries over to the fall. Tested atop team’s offensive linemen with 330-lb. power clean lift. Originally recruited as a defensive lineman, but made the switch to the offensive side during his redshirt season.
2004 ? Appearances in nine of 11 games included starts at right tackle vs. Arizona and Stanford, taking 75 snaps against the Cardinal. Ended the season strong as he graded as team’s top offensive lineman against UCLA and Oregon State.
2003 ? Injuries to key players on the offensive line paved the way for this young player to be thrown into the fire. Having never taken a snap in a game situation on the offensive line, he played in eight games and earned the starting nod at left tackle vs. Arizona State and Washington. Played in career-high 76 snaps vs. Stanford.
2002 ? Team’s offensive scout player of the week for preparations leading up to Arizona State game.
