Ducks Drop Road Match to UNLV, 1-0

The University of Oregon soccer team lost 1-0 at UNLV Friday night at Peter Johann Field in Las Vegas. The Rebels improved to 5-1 overall with the victory, dropping the Ducks to 2-2-2 on the season.
On her only shot of the match, UNLV midfielder Sarah Naranjo scored the game-winner on a header in the 79th minute of action. The score came off an assist from fellow midfielder Macy Jo Harrison who sent a cross from the right side.
The Ducks out-shot their opponent, 14-12, marking the fourth consecutive game UO has held an edge in overall shots. Oregon also maintained an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal and a lopsided margin in corner kicks, 8-3, with five of those coming in the first half.
UNLV goalkeeper Kylie Wassell had eight saves en route to the shutout. Forward Ashleigh Shoughro had a team-high five shots, one on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Cody Miles had five saves as one of seven Ducks to play the entire 90 minutes. Senior forward Jen Stoltenberg had eight shots, five on target, in playing the full allotment.
Sophomore midfielder Scout Libke added two shots, one on goal, while senior Rianna Mansfield, sophomores Mo Fitzgerald and Kelsey Hones, and freshman Brynne Konkel added one shot apiece.
The Ducks were whistled for 11 fouls to UNLV's 10. The Rebels are off to their best start in school history.
Oregon (2-2-2) will return to action Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (PT) with a neutral-site match against Kansas (2-3). The Jayhawks lost in extra time to CS Northridge, 1-0, in Friday's opening match at the UNLV Nike Tournament.
