One of team's steadiest and hardest-working long distance runners, should contend for league points in either the 5,000 and 10,000 on the track in 2004. Team's third-fastest returnee in 10,000 (29:50.22) and fourth-fastest in 5,000 (14:16.40-indoors). Based on 2003 bests, ranks 12th in 5,000 among returnees. Has scored in 12 of his 14 cross country races for the Ducks, including second-best for the team twice.
2002-03: Pac-10 & Regional Qualifier (5,000). Lowered outdoor 5K best by 16 seconds in Oregon Invite (18th-twilight section, 14:19.65). Ranked second among Duck entries in the 5,000 in the West Regional (23rd, 14:53.55). Also ran 3,000 twice outdoors with season best in Oregon Preview (second, 8:29.14). In cross country was one of three Ducks to score in all four varsity stops, including second NCAA chase (112th, 31:13) for fifth-place Ducks. Also added top-five team efforts and best ever finishes in Pac-10 (17th, 24:29) and NCAA Western Regional Championships (16th, 31:00). Opened season in team's fourth spot in Roy Griak Invite (21st, 24:50) as Ducks cruised to team title in field featuring 12 eventual NCAA team qualifiers. Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team selection in track and field, and honorable mentin pick in cross country for second straight season.
2001-02: NCAA Provisional Qualifier. Outdoors, ranked second on team in 10K (29:50.22) -- only five seconds shy of the NCAA provisional mark -- and fourth in 5K (14:35.52). Closed season with first Pac-10 appearance in 10K (13th, 32:37.37), after ending regular season ranked 11th on season best list. Closed March with 44-second personal best in Stanford Invitational 10K (16th-section, 29:50.22). Ran 5K in other outdoor appearance in Cardinal Invitational in May (19th, 14:35.52). Indoors, ranked second on team thanks to his nearly 30-second 5K personal best and first NCAA provisional mark (14:16.40) from indoor finale in Seattle's UW Qualifier. Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention selection in track. In cross country, ranked fourth on squad in NCAA Championships debut (117th, 31:09). Scored in team's third spot in Pac-10 Champs (17th, 25:10), and runner-up on squad in Furman Invitational (37th, 25:25). Also ran in Western Regional (55th, 33:07), Roy Griak Invitational (98th, 25:22) and Portland-Portland State Triangular (second, 18:30). Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention selection in track and field and cross country.
2000-2001: In his first year at the collegiate level, ranked second on squad in the 10,000 (30:34.72) and third in the 5,000 (14:47.30). Made 10K debut at Stanford Invitational (63rd, 30:34.72), Also made appearances outdoors at Oregon Twilight (1,500, 13th, 4:06.47) and Oregon Invitational (5,000, 14:47.30). Indoors ran 5K at Iowa State Classic in February (21st, 14:54.18). During cross country season, scored at all four varsity races as arguably team's top newcomer. Ran at NCAA Western Regional (38th, 31:53), Pac-10 Championships (18th, 24:21.79), Iowa State Memorial Classic (122nd, 32:33) and Roy Griak Invite (67th, 26:26). Named honorable mention selection to Pac-10 Cross Country All-Academic Team.
1999-2000: Attended the University of Oregon as a student, but was not a part of the track program.
Prep: Was a state finalist in cross country and track and field during senior and junior seasons. On the track, took fifth in 4A state 3,000 (8:48.06), while doubling as a junior in the 1,500 (13th, 4:10.10) and 3,000 (17th, 9:05.67). In cross country, finished second in 1998 4A harrier final (16:22) as a senior and 20th as a junior in 1997 (16:44). Owned 5K cross country best of 15:36 from his senior season. Was also a four-year letterwinner at guard, small forward in basketball and also played wide receiver and cornerback in football. High School (Coach): Eagle Point ?99 (Matt Pinder).
