Returns in 2005 for second and final season for Ducks as squad's top hammer thrower. Will aim for UO's all-time top-10 list in the hammer with his Duck best (199-0) just over three feet shy of #10 (Nick Anastassiades, 202-1). Will try to extend the Ducks' NCAA hammer qualifying streak to four straight seasons after he debuted in the collegiate finale in 2004. Transferred to Ducks after he competed two seasons at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore., (and also owns a second year of indoor eligibility remaining after redshirting his first season in 2000-01). His shot put and discus bests rank second on the Duck unit behind sophomore Brandon Tower (51-3 3/4; 147-7 as a frosh in '04). Among collegiate hammer returnees, stands second in Pac-10, fifth in region and 26th nationally based on '04 season bests.
2003-2004: NCAA Qualifier (Hammer). In first year in Eugene, capped season with NCAA appearance in the hammer (24th-prelims, 193-8), thanks to a top-five finish in the West Regional (fifth, 193-0) - three places better than his pre-meet seeding. Scored first Pac-10 points in mid-May (sixth, 192-10) - barely six feet off his season best (199-0). Overall, competed in eight hammer competitions, and threw 190 feet or better in every meet. Was a half-foot or less off his pre-UO personal best (199-3) in back-to-back mid-season meets prior to championship slate - the Oregon Invitational (sixth, 199-0) and Oregon Twilight (198-9). Also made one outdoor shot put appearance in the Pepsi Invite (ninth, 42-9 1/2), and two appearances in the discus, with his season best in the Oregon Preview (fourth, 147-7). Ended outdoor season ranked fourth in Pac-10 in hammer, 11th in region and 44th nationally based on season bests. Indoors, led the squad in the weight throw with his seasonal best from the Pac-10 Invitational (fourth, 55-7).
Before Oregon: Competed for Lane CC in Eugene the previous two outdoor seasons (2001-02, 2002-03). Won the NWAACC hammer title (199-3) in 2003 as a sophomore, after he placed third in the hammer and second in the discus in the conference meet as a freshman. Was also named team MVP in 2003. Owned senior season discus best of 152-0 and junior best of 153-5. Set Clackamas school record in hammer (199-3) as a sophomore in 2003.
Prep: Took runner-up honors in the 1999 Washington 4A championships in the discus as a junior, and was the district champion as a senior in 2000 (PR 175-11). Honored as the most improved athlete on the squad as a junior, and overall was a three-time letterwinner. Also lettered one year as a rower in crew. Owned prep bests in discus (175-11) and shot put (52-9). Set junior school record (167-0) in 1999.
