Returns for a fifth year following a medical redshirt for the 2010 season. Oregon's most experienced decathlete. Eugene native has grown into a Pac-10 talent in the decathlon. Scored in that event for Oregon’s 2009 league championship team and just missed adding another point in the high jump. Former state high jump champion for Sheldon High School.
2009-10: Outdoors - Medical redshirt season. Decathlete opened year with a personal best in the javelin of 162-7/49.57m at the Oregon Preview. Was off to a great start at the Mt. SAC/California Invitational decathlon before a knee injury took him out of the competition after three events. Prior to the injury, set a PR in the long jump with a wind-aided effort of 22-7.25/6.89m. Successfully petitioned for a medical redshirt season. Indoors - Season finale at the MPSF Championships included heptathlon personal bests in the shot put (40-0.5) and high jump (6-7). Won the long jump at the UW Indoor Preview with a leap of 21-11.75. Season Bests: Indoors - Heptathlon - 4,283 points, MPSF Championships, Seattle Wash. (2/26-27/10); High Jump - 6-7/2.01m, MPSF Championships heptathlon, Seattle, Wash. (2/26/10).
2008-09: Pac-10 scorer in his first full season as a decathlete. Competed in three decathlons. Was second at the Big Green in the Desert with 6,501 points and third at the Oregon Relays (6,390). Established a personal best by scoring 6,664 points in placing eighth at the Pac-10 Championships and scoring a point for the eventual team champs. Also competed in the high jump at the Pac-10 Championships and just missed scoring in that event with a ninth-place clearance at 6-6.75. Established an outdoor college best in the high jump with a clearance at 6-7.5 versus UCLA and matched that in the Oregon Relays decathlon. Indoors, competed in his first heptathlon and scored 4,759 points at the MPSF Championships. Also set a personal best in the high jump with a clearance of 6-8.75 at the Husky Classic. Tied for first in the high jump at the MPSF Championships (6-7). Season Bests: Outdoors – Decathlon - 6,664 points (PR), Pac-10 Championships, Eugene, Ore. (5/9-10/09); High Jump - 6-7.5/2.02m, UCLA Dual Meet, Eugene, Ore. (4/18/09) & Oregon Relays decathlon, Eugene, Ore. (4/23/09). Indoors - Heptathlon - 4,759 points (PR), MPSF Championships, Seattle, Wash. (2/27-28/09); High Jump - 6-8.75/2.05m (PR), Husky Classic, Seattle, Wash. (2/14/09).
2007-08: Competed in a range of events from the jumps to the throws. Saw action at the Oregon Preview (long jump), Pepsi Team Invite (high jump, javelin), Oregon Relays (high jump, javelin) and Oregon Twilight (long jump, discus). Did not compete indoors. Season Bests: Outdoors – High Jump - 6-3.5, Pepsi Team Invite, Eugene, Ore. (4/5/08) and Oregon Relays, Eugene, Ore. (4/25/08).
2006-07: During freshman season, split time between football and track squads. Competed twice outdoors locally in high jump and redshirted indoor campaign. Season Bests: Outdoors - High Jump - 6-5.5, Oregon Preview, Eugene, Ore. (3/17/07).
Prep: As senior, won Oregon state 4A high jump title (6-6) for Sheldon High School, and added top-10 finishes in the 100 meters (eighth, 11.67), 200 meters (10th, 22.75) and 4x100 meter relay (seventh). During the 2006 regular season, ranked second in the state in high jump (6-8) – two inches better than his junior best - and also ranked among the state leaders in 2006 in the 200 meters as a senior (22.24). Also competed in the state meet as a junior in the 4x100 meters (sixth), high jump (seventh, 6-6), 200 meters (10th, 23.03) and 4x400 meter relay (11th, 3:29.29). High School Bests: High Jump - 6-8 (2006).
