Two-time Pac-10 Champion and 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials competitor owns one of the best throws by a collegian in NCAA history. Effort of 272-10 from the 2009 Pepsi Team Invitational is a school and Pac-10 record and ranks fourth all-time in the NCAA. A USA Track & Field Championships competitor in 2009-10. Joins Alex Wolff and Mike Simmons to give Oregon three All-America javelin throwers. A first team ESPN the Magazine academic All-American.
2009-10: Pac-10 javelin champion. Outdoors - Led the nation in the javelin. The last Duck to open his season successfully defended his Pac-10 javelin title after setting the national lead in the event two weeks earlier. Opened season with a throw of 256-6 to win the Oregon Relays and jump to the national lead. Set meet and staduim records in winning the Pac-10 javelin title at 253-4. That mark was just two centimeters better than USC's Cooper Thompson (253-3). Became the first Duck to win back-to-back Pac-10 javelin titles since Brian Crouser in 1984-85. At the NCAA West Regional, finished fifth with a throw of 227-8/69.67 to move on to the finals in Eugene. Won his second career All-America award with his 10th place finish (225-4/68.69m). Was ninth at the USA Track & Field Championships (230-5/70.23m). Won a slough of academic honors, including ESPN the Magazine first team Academic All-America, District 8 first team all-adademic and Pac-10 first team all-academic. 2008-09: Won the javelin during every regular season meet before claiming the titles at the Pac-10 and NCAA West Regional championships. Finished fourth at the NCAA Championships to earn his first All-America award. Also qualified for the USA Track & Field Championships, where he just missed a spot on Team USA with a fourth-place finish. Surpassed 250 feet in four different meets. Won the Oregon Preview (218-11) and the Stanford Invitational (245-3) before his Herculean toss at the Pepsi Team Invitational. Mark of 272-10 broke John Stiegeler’s school record by 20 feet. Also broke Esko Mikkola’s 1998 Pac-10 record of 268-7 (Arizona) and established a new Pepsi Team Invitational standard. The 272-10 mark is fourth all-time among collegians, trailing only Patrik Bod?n of Texas (292-4), Tom Pukstys of Florida (273-3) and Matti N?rhi of Texas-El Paso (273-2). Continued hot streak with wins in the UCLA dual meet (257-2) and the Oregon Relays (261-11) before claiming his first Pac-10 title with a throw of 250-5. Scored 10 team points to help Oregon win its third straight Pac-10 title. Also won the NCAA West Regional crown with a mark of 238-6. At the NCAA Championships, placed fourth with a throw of 238-6 to score five point for the national runners-up. Capped season with a fourth-place showing at the USA Track & Field Championships (247-11). Named the team’s George Scharpf Outstanding Athlete Award winner. Before Oregon: Competing for Lane Community College, won the 2008 NWAACC javelin title as a sophomore with a conference and school record throw of 241-0. That effort also qualified him for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. Best throw at the trials was 219-3, which was the top collegian and 17th overall. Was also the top collegian (third overall) at the Twilight Meet in May with a then-school record throw of 233-7. Also finished fourth in decathlon at the NWAACC meet, scoring 5,919 points. As a freshman, placed second at the NWAACC meet with a throw of 208-6. Also played basketball for Lane as a freshman. Attended Weber State for one year after high school, but did not compete. LCC Bests: Outdoors - Javelin - 241-0, NWAACC Championships, Gresham, Ore. (5/23/08); Decathlon - 5,919 points, NWAACC Championships, Gresham, Ore (4/28-29/08).
Prep: A USATF junior All-American in the javelin after placing fifth (205-2). First team all-state in the javelin, where he ranked 10th nationally. Also played football, basketball and baseball for Newberg. Was a first team all-conference pick at tight end. Graduated with honors from Newberg.
Personal: Art major. Wants to become a cast member on the Discovery Channel’s Myth Busters.
