All-American
Courageous performance at the 2010 NCAA Championships where he finished the decathlon despite severly injuring his left hamstring in the pole vault. Took third in the decathlon at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships. One of the most improved members of the team in 2009 earned All-America status in the decathlon (12th at the NCAA meet), and was the runner-up in the event at the Pac-10 Championships. Also scored in the 400 meter hurdles at the Pac-10 meet and was a regional qualifier in that event. Point-scoring member of the Ducks’ 2008 Pac-10 Championship team (decathlon). As a prep, captured five Oregon 2A state championships. Was a 13-time Oregon 2A state championships qualifier, and captured titles in the 110 hurdles, 300 hurdles and pole vault. Graduated as the 2A state meet record holder in the 300 hurdles (38.12) and pole vault (15-4).
2009-10: Outdoors - Ranked 23rd nationally in the decathlon. Helped Oregon win its fourth straight Pac-10 title by taking third in the decathlon with a season-best 7,331 points. Set a decathlon personal-best in the shot put (40-7.75/12.39m) and 110 meter hurdles (14.81) at the Pac-10 meet. Was one of the inspirational stories of the 2010 NCAA Championships, where he suffered a severe injury to his left hamstring during the pole vault, but still finished the competition. Before the injury, set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 22-6.25 and had decathlon bests in both the shot put (41-9.25/12.73m) and high jump (6-1.5/1.87m). After the injury and a no height in the pole vault, went to a short approach in the javelin for a respectable mark of 168-2, and then limped four laps around Hayward Field in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line to a rousing standing ovation in 7:04.56. Placed 22nd with 5,883 points, but all that mattered was that he finished. Earlier in the season, recovered from a difficult opening day to score a wind-aided 7,074 points in the decathlon at the Texas Relays. Set a PR in the discus (127-0/38.70m) and matched his PR in the high jump (6-0.5/2.02m) in that competition, where he was also the second-fastest 1,500 runner (4:35.78). Took third in the 400 meter hurdles at the Pepsi Team Invitational in 53.53. Also ran on Oregon's runner-up 4x400 relay team at the Pepsi meet (3:08.41). Indoors - Set a personal best in the heptathlon, 5,324 points, at the MPSF Championships. That bettered his previous effort by more than 100 points. At that meet, had heptathlon personal bests in the 60 meters (7.19), long jump (22-0.25) and shot put (40-0). Placed sixth in the heptathlon at the Texas A&M Challenge with 5,021 points. 2008-09: All-American (decathlon) and a three-time Pac-10 scorer (decathlon, 400 meter hurdles, 4x400 relay). Established PRs in eight events, including a 14-foot best in the javelin (176-0), to finish second in the decathlon at the Pac-10 Championships (7,337 points). Also scored for the three-time league champions in the 400 meter hurdles (eighth, 51.94) and the 4x400 meter relay (third, 3:08.95). Hurdle time at the Pac-10 meet led to his first NCAA West Regional bid. Nearly matched his PR run in the decathlon at the NCAA Championships, where het set six PRs, including a clearance at 15-9 in the pole vault, to establish a personal best score of 7,470 and collect his first career All-America award with a 12th-place finish. Opened season by winning the decathlon at the Big Green in the Desert (6,702 points). Scored 6,933 points in a second-place finish at the Oregon Relays. Finished second in the 400 hurdles (52.92) to help Oregon defeat UCLA. Indoors, set a career best in the heptathlon (5,209 points) in a fourth-place finish at the MPSF Championships. Also set high jump PR of 6-2 at the UW Indoor Invitational. Named the team’s Dow Wilson Inspirational Award winner. 2007-08: Helped Oregon win its fourth Pac-10 title in the last six years by finishing fifth in the decathlon at Arizona State, where he scored a season-best 6,866 points. Also cleared a season-best 15-7 in the pole vault one week later at the Pac-10 meet. Placed fourth in the decathlon at the Sacramento State Invitational in March. Indoors, established a seasonal mark in the heptathlon of 4,541 points at the UW Indoor Invitational in February. Season Bests: Outdoors - Decathlon - 6,866 points, Pac-10 Championships, Tempe, Ariz. 2006-07: Made USA Junior Championships debut at end of season and opened event with three decathlon event bests (100 meters, long jump, shot put). Made collegiate debut in Azusa Pacific decathlon in mid-April and logged seven of his freshman season decathlon bests. Besides his combined event competitions (two decathlons and two heptathlons), also competed outdoors in the 110 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, pole vault, and javelin and indoors in the 200 meters, 400 meters, 60 hurdles, pole vault. Season Bests: Outdoors - Decathlon - 6,110 points, Azusa Pacific Decathlon, Azusa, Calif. (4/11-12/07); 400 Hurdles - 55.54, Oregon Twilight, Eugene, Ore. (5/5/07). Indoors - Heptathlon - 4,515 points, UW Invitational, Seattle, Wash. (1/25-26/07).
Prep: All-American. As a senior in 2006, won Oregon 2A state titles in 110 hurdles (15.14, w:-1.3), 300 hurdles (38.12) and pole vault (15-4), and placed second in the 4x100 meter relay (44.16). Was a top three finisher as a junior in the 110 hurdles (first, 15.36), 300 hurdles (second, 39.78), 4x100 meter relay (third, 44.70) and pole vault (first, 14-3), and as a sophomore in the 110 hurdles (third). Ended senior season ranked top-five among Oregon preps in the 110 hurdles (fifth, 14.96), 300 hurdles (first, 38.12) and pole vault (second, 15-4). After senior season, earned prep All-America honors in the Junior Olympics decathlon (sixth, 6,044). Four-year track letterwinner. Also lettered four seasons in football, and two in basketball. Was an all-state receiver and an all-league receiver/punter in football, and received all-state honorable mention in basketball. Participated in student government.
Personal: Majoring in history. His sister Jessica Rodriguez played collegiate volleyball.
