Pac-10 scorer and NCAA Regional qualifier in the hammer. One of Oregon’s busiest throwers the last three years. Three-time Pac-10 All-Academic first team selection. As a prep, was a three-time Kansas state champion in the shot put and discus.
2009-10: Outdoors - Became a Pac-10 scorer for the first time in his career with a seventh-place showing in the hammer (189-11/57.88m). Followed that with a solid showing at the NCAA West Regional, where he was just off his personal best (194-8). Opened season with a personal best throw in the hammer of 193-1/58.85m at the Oregon Preview. Won his section of the hammer at the Stanford Invitational (185-3/56.46m). Improved his PR by four feet against UCLA (197-2/60.11m) where his second place finish helped Oregon win their dual meet. Took third at the Oregon Twilight (189-6/57.75m). Pac-10 all-academic first team. Indoors - Did not compete. Season Bests: Outdoors - Hammer - 197-2/60.11m (PR), UCLA Dual, Eugene, Ore. (4/17/10).
2008-09: Competed in the hammer throw in four meets. Just missed a second NCAA West Regional bid. Season-best effort of 180-10 came in a second-place throw at the Oregon Relays. Was fourth at the Oregon Preview (170-11), UCLA dual (176-5) and Oregon Twilight (172-4). Redshirted the indoor season. Pac-10 All-Academic first team. Season Bests: Outdoors - Hammer - 180-10/55.11m, Oregon Relays, Eugene, Ore. (4/24/09); Discus - 146-9/44.73m, UCLA Dual, Eugene, Ore. (4/18/09).
2007-08: NCAA Regional qualifier saw extensive action in the hammer, but also competed in other throwing events. In the hammer, set personal best in five consecutive meets. Opened the season with a throw of 167-11 at the Oregon Preview. Improved on that to 175-9 at the Oregon-UCLA dual and then went to 180-2 at the Oregon Relays. Threw 185-6 at the Oregon Twilight before topping out with a seasonal-best 186-6 at the Western Oregon Twilight. Finished season with his first NCAA West Regional appearance (183-9). Indoors, had a pair of top-five finishes in the shot put, with a best of 46-11.75 at the UW Indoor Invite. At that same meet, set personal best in the weight throw (55-1). 2006-07: Redshirted outdoor season. His unattached marks ranked tops among freshmen and top-four overall on team in the shot put, discus and hammer. Indoors, donned Oregon jersey and was its top freshman in the shot put and weight throw and overall ranked third and fifth, respectively, on the squad. Season Bests: Outdoors - Shot Put - 55-1.5 (PR), Oregon Invitational, Eugene, Ore. (4/21/07); Discus - 137-7, Oregon Invitational, Eugene, Ore. (4/21/07); Hammer - 157-8, Oregon Invitational, Eugene, Ore. (4/20/07). Indoors - Shot Put - 48-11 (PR), UW Indoor Invitational, Seattle, Wash. (1/27/07); Weight Throw - 46-9, Husky Collegiate, Seattle, Wash. (2/10/07).
Prep: Won Kansas 6A state titles as a senior in the shot put (56-11 3/4) and discus (165-2) and as a junior in the shot put (52-5 1/2). Was also a state shot put qualifier in 2004 (fourth, 52-0 1/4) and 2003 (13th). Won regional titles in shot put and discus as a senior and junior.
