A two-time NCAA decathlon veteran, will seek his first All-America honor in 2006 after he narrowly missed in 2004 and '05. Is a four-time Pac-10 scorer in the pole vault and decathlon. Needs 160 points to join UO all-time list in decathlon (#10 is 7,532). Is top Pac-10 returnee in decathlon and ranks ninth nationally, based on 2005 season bests.
2004-05: NCAA Qualifier (Decathlon). Made NCAA decathlon return (11th, 7,049) ? and finished four places better than his pre-meet seeding. Scored his third top-five finish in the Pac-10 decathlon (7,165) and topped the NCAA provisional mark (7,000). Returned to LA to score in the Pac-10 pole vault (eighth-tie, 16-0 3/4) ? one of three Ducks in the top eight. Posted second-highest career decathlon score in season debut in Oregon Invitational (7,392). Ranked first on team in decathlon (7,329) and third in pole vault (16-6 3/4). On year-end season best lists, ranked 23rd in U.S., 15th among collegians and second in the Pac-10 (7,329). Indoors, competed in two heptathlons. Second-Team Academic All-American and Pac-10 All-Academic First Team selection. Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoors ? Decathlon - 7,329, Oregon Invitational, Eugene, Ore. (4/21-22/05). 2003-04: Pac-10 Scorer and NCAA Qualifier (Decathlon): Capped outdoor season with first NCAA decathlon appearance (13th, 7,302) ? three places higher than his pre-meet seed. Earned invite based on Pac-10 Championships score (third, 7,372), a 193-point personal best that was 355 points better than his preseason best. Also scored a then-outdoor best in the Pac-10 Championships pole vault (12th, 16-5 1/2) and placed two spots higher than his pre-meet ranking. Ranked 37th in the U.S. in the decathlon, and third of four Ducks that topped the NCAA provisional mark (7,000). Indoors, ranked second on the squad in the heptathlon and was an NCAA provisional qualifier with his Mountain Pacific Championships tally (third, 5,385). Missed final NCAA hep invite by only six places on national qualifying list and 98 points. Also ranked third on the squad in the pole vault with his season best from the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier (seventh, 16-6 3/4) in Seattle in March. Pac-10 All-Academic First Team pick. 2002-03: Pac-10 Scorer and NCAA Prov. Qualifier (Decathlon). Was one of three, top-five UO finishers in Pac-10 decathlon with his 69-point personal best (7,017) that ranked him 41st nationally and was 252 points shy of NCAA invite. Made 10-event debut in Texas Relays (11th, 6,948w). Stepped up for team to compete in 1,500 in Pac-10 Championships to help force a prelim round and ran an almost nine-second personal best (18th overall, 4:13.83). One of five UO Pac-10 All-Academic First Team picks. Indoors, owned season bests in 60 hurdles (8.69), pole vault (15-7) and long jump (20-4 1/4). Personal/Seasonal Bests: Outdoor - Decathlon - 7,017w, Pac-10 Championships, Los Angeles (5/10-11/04). Indoor - Pole Vault - 4.75m (15-7), Husky Preview, Seattle (1/18/03). Long Jump - 6.02m (20-4 1/4), Pac-10 Invite, Seattle (3/1/03).
2001-02: Redshirted. Competed unattached in pole vault (fifth, 15-0, 4.57m) in Oregon Twilight and ran 110 hurdles best (15.24) in UW mini-meet. Threw javelin best of 167-9 in summer all-comers meet in 2002.
Prep: As senior in 4A state meet in 2000, finished fifth in 300 hurdles, and was a pole vault, triple jump and 110 hurdles qualifier. Also earned state invite as sophomore in 300 hurdles, while an injury at districts as a junior prevented a third state invite. Owned prep bests of 15-0 (pole vault), 110 hurdles (14.68), 39.25 (300 hurdles), 21-0 (long jump) and 45-1 (triple jump). Lettered three years at sweeper in soccer. High School (Coach): Newberg ?01 (Bruce Sinkeil/Monte Bradley).
Personal: Human Physiology major / Chemistry & Business Administration minors. His brother Aaron was an NAIA triple jump champion for George Fox (PR 49-4).
