Joined Duck throws corps for 2006 spring term. Previously attended Clackamas Community College, and he was also a nationally-ranked prep javelin thrower at West Linn High School in the Portland area. One of two Duck additions in the javelin for 2006 season that owned prior +230-foot personal bests along with true freshman Matthew Maloney (231-5, 2005), while another Duck newcomer Alex Wolff threw a prep best of 213-5 as a high school senior in '05.
Before Oregon: As a freshman at Clackamas in 2004, he won the NWAACC conference title with a 16-foot, five-inch personal best (237-7) - a mark that ranked 21st in the U.S. He also scored in the conference long jump (fourth, 22-11 1/4) and 4x100 relay (fifth, 42.39).
Prep: On the national high school season best lists, he stood sixth nationally and third in the state as a senior in the javelin in 2003 (209-4), and seventh nationally and third in the state as a sophomore in 2001 (218-5) and second among non-seniors that year. Broke the newer implement state meet record as a senior in 2003 (202-4) and added duty in the long jump (ninth, 21-2 1/4w, w:+2.5) and 4x100 relay (seventh, 43.93, third leg). As a sophomore in 2001 he placed second in the javelin (213-11), and competed only in the state long jump as a junior in 2002 (eighth, 20-9). Two-time district champion in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, long jump and javelin. Also lettered two seasons at quarterback in football and one season at center in basketball. Personal: Psychology major. His cousin Dennis Rice throws the javelin for USC.
