In his first season as a volunteer coach for the Duck multi-event corps in 2006-07, former Pac-10 scorer Cody Fleming continues his work with the program after a successful decathlon career for UO.
As a Duck athlete in 2004-05 and 2005-06, he placed top-10 in the league decathlon as a junior (fourth, 6,980) and senior (10th), and was also a Pac-10 competitor in the high jump, javelin and discus.
As a junior, his decathlon season and personal best from the Pac-10 Championships (6,980) was 239 points better than his preseason best, and only 20 points shy of the NCAA provisional standard.
Prior to his Duck career, he competed two outdoor seasons at Lane Community College in Eugene (2002-03, 2003-04). He placed top two in the NWAACC conference meet as a sophomore in the discus (first, PR 154-2) and decathlon (second, then-PR 6,741 points) en route to southern region high point scorer honors. He also competed in 2003 USA Junior Championships in the decathlon (sixth, 6,215) after his freshman season.
As a prep, the 2002 Reed High School graduate was a decorated state performer with prep bests of 6-7 in the high jump and 166-7 in the discus. As a senior, he competed in the state high jump (third, 6-6), discus (third, 160-3) and 4x100 (ninth-prelim, 43.71), and added fifth as a junior in the state discus. Away from the oval, he was an all-conference quarterback, and also lettered at center in basketball.
Fleming is completing a journalism degree with a focus on advertising.
